Meet Zoe Vann, Project Manager

Zoe’s education: Master of Science in Business Administration Management

What made you apply for a position at Sectra?

I applied to Sectra because I was looking for a role that would allow me to grow both professionally and personally. I wanted to work for a company that would challenge me on a daily basis, and that is precisely what Sectra does.

How long have you been working at Sectra?

I started at Sectra a little over a year ago.

The Swedish phrase “gör nåt bra” (do something well) is really at the core of Sectra’s culture. Regardless of how long you have been with our organization, your ideas are always taken into consideration, and provided that they are worthwhile, they tend to be implemented.

Zoe Vann, Project Manager

Why healthcare?

I have always wanted to work in a role where I can make people smile and have the ability to help others. I am confident that the work I do at Sectra not only improves the day-to-day lives of my customers, but that it ultimately has a direct impact on the care that our customers provide to patients.

What do you do in a typical day at work?

As a Project Manager, every day is a little different, and you truly need to expect the unexpected. Typically, I spend a lot of time working directly with customers and our internal team. I keep track of all the moving pieces in a project to ensure that we are meeting our deliverables and getting our products in place for our end users. My role can be challenging at times, but the challenges are worth it because of the difference I am making in contributing to a healthier and safer society.

Have you always wanted to be a Project Manager?

No, not exactly. Once upon a time, I wanted to open my own bakery and bring joy to the world with sweet treats. Though baking is still one of my favorite activities, the skillset I use as a Project Manager comes very naturally to me. Working as a Project Manager for Sectra has allowed me to have a much more significant impact on the world and be able to support a higher cause.

What are you most passionate about?

My passion comes from having the ability to make someone else’s day a little better.

How would you describe the Sectra workplace?

At Sectra, there is a real sense that everyone is working toward the same goal, and you never feel like you are the only one doing the work. There is a true sense of trust and accountability within the team and across departments.

Why would you recommend applying for a job at Sectra?

If you are a self-starter looking to be a part of a great team, this will be an ideal environment for you. We function as a team and genuinely support one another in our personal and professional development. We challenge each other to improve, but that is all part of the fun.

What do you like most about your job?

If you have an idea and you can see where improvements can be made, then you have a voice. The Swedish phrase “gör nåt bra” (do something well) is really at the core of Sectra’s culture. Regardless of how long you have been with our organization, your ideas are always taken into consideration, and provided that they are worthwhile, they tend to be implemented.

What values are you driven by?

I think that trust is critical, particularly when working in a team. I think that humor and accountability go a long way in building trust, not only within a team but also with customers.

How have you grown professionally and personally while being here?

I have grown a lot. When I joined Sectra, I was very green, but Sectra has given me the tools I need to succeed as a Project Manager and encouraged me to achieve more. My team has helped to put me on the path to obtaining my PMP certification, which would not have been possible just a year ago. Not only have they helped me professionally, but my team at Sectra has helped me find my voice and become more extroverted.

What has been the most exciting project you have worked on since you started with Sectra?

In most companies, arriving with a lack of experience can mean that the projects you work on are very limited, or that you occupy a limited role within the team. With Sectra, that is far from the truth. During my first six months of employment, I had the opportunity to work on one of our largest customer go-lives. My role was to assist the lead Project Manager, making sure that no details were missed during the complex go-live event. More importantly, I helped build and roll out a new go-live communication tool to the company that was a huge success. Use of this tool, along with the guidelines I developed, is now a standard company-wide practice for go-lives.
