Meet Johannes Engström, Hardware Engineer
Johannes Education: Master of science in Electronics Design Engineering.
How long have you been working at Sectra?
My journey at Sectra started in the spring of 2021 when I did my master’s thesis together with a classmate. We evaluated and designed a concept for a hardware secure module (HSM), which involved a physical unclonable function (PUF) formed as a sensing mesh enclosure used for tamper protection. I started working as a hardware engineer at Sectra right after graduation and have been working here since then.
Why did you apply for a job at Sectra?
From day one at Sectra, I was fascinated by the atmosphere. People here are so welcoming and inclusive, and they made me feel valuable to the company from the start. The people here are also very smart, and our solutions and what we achieve amaze me. I wanted to be a part of a high-tech company at the forefront, and that is Sectra.
I constantly learn new things, and I am challenged by intricate tasks and problems to solve. The combination of these challenging tasks and the support from my manager gives me the confidence and the possibility to grow, both in my professional role but also privately.
What are you most passionate about?
I have always wanted to do something meaningful in life, and I have always been interested in electronics. When I was younger, I had an internship at a power system engineering company where my father works, which increased my interest. Sectra is therefore a perfect fit for me. I am able to work with my passion for electronics while also contributing to a safer society through our solutions.
What do you do on a typical day at work?
It is kind of difficult to describe a day at work since my days vary a lot, but that is one thing I really like about my job. My days mostly vary depending on which phase of a project we are in. The different phases include, for example, planning, simulation, electronics design, testing, verification, troubleshooting, etc. But to summarize my role, I work with problem-solving and product development, and we always work hard to meet and exceed our customers’ demands and expectations.
How have you grown professionally and personally while being here?
This job is very educational. I constantly learn new things, and I am challenged by intricate tasks and problems to solve. The combination of these challenging tasks and the support from my manager gives me the confidence and the possibility to grow, both in my professional role but also privately.
How would you describe Sectra as a workplace?

What makes you go to work every day?
My job is to help our customers become more efficient and to give them the tools needed to make our society more secure. This knowledge and the importance of what we do here at Sectra is what motivates me, and it makes me strive to always do the best possible.
