Meet Sofia Adolfsson, UX Designer

Sofia’s education: Design and Product Development at Linköping University.

What is your role at Sectra?

I work as a UX designer, which at Sectra means you contribute throughout the entire development process, from user research to designing the interface and verifying it with the users. Basically, making sure the users have the best possible experience of our products. You could say it’s like being an interpreter between the users and the developers.

What do you do on a typical day at work?

A typical day at Sectra is highly varied, which is an advantage to me. It can consist of everything from visiting hospitals to building prototypes in Figma. Many times, it involves investigating what functions are really needed by talking to our users about their needs and current struggles. Being out at the sites, interacting with customers and hearing about how our products have facilitated their work motivates me and gives me a lot of energy.

You also work together with a lot with different people at Sectra. You collaborate with other UX designers, your project owners and, of course, the development teams. Days full of incredible teamwork exchanging ideas back and forth give me a lot of energy as well. So, the workday basically consists of a lot of collaboration between us and the users, and with my colleagues at Sectra.

There is no sense of prestige at Sectra, no hierarchy. Everyone is listened to regardless of their position.

What are you passionate about?

My passion is being able to feel that I am making someone’s everyday life easier, and this becomes clear when I get to see the solutions being used. Feeling that you are actually contributing to something important in society motivates me to do the best I can, because it really matters. The solutions save valuable time for healthcare workers, time that can be used for more patients and better healthcare.

What brought you to Sectra?

I had heard a lot of positive things about Sectra. For example, that it has a great atmosphere, nice colleagues, and a pleasant work environment. Also, the importance of the employees’ well-being and work-life balance—that was the main reason for my decision. And now I’ve worked here since 2021.

I’ve always had this doubt about not being good enough, but now I know that I am good at what I do. I feel confident about it and the choices I make. It feels like I’ve finally found my place.

How would you describe Sectra as a workplace?

There’s a great mix of personalities and interests, and everyone is welcomed and accepted. There is no sense of prestige at Sectra, no hierarchy. Everyone is listened to regardless of their position. I also have a lot of fun at work. I laugh a lot.

There is also great teamwork within the company as a whole, so even if you are the only person with your particular duties in your team, you are not alone in the company. People gladly help however they can.

How have you grown professionally and personally while being here?

Since coming to Sectra, I’ve learned a lot about medical technology and the medical world, which I initially had no experience of. But on a personal level, my confidence has evolved. I’ve always had this doubt about not being good enough, but now I know that I am good at what I do. I feel confident about it and the choices I make. It feels like I’ve finally found my place.

What would you say to those who are thinking about applying for a job at Sectra?

Do it! It’ll be the best decision you’ve ever made. If you want to feel like your work really makes a difference, and if you like spending time with awesome people, take the chance! It doesn’t matter which department you want to work in. You will make a difference.
